The Boundary Between Us

A wildlife adventure romance set against the raw beauty of the African bush.

When wildlife photographer Alexis Morganreturns to Kestrel Ridge after inheriting the reserve from her aunt, she expects paperwork, repairs and the uncomfortable weight of deciding what to do with a place she never planned to own.

She does not expect Eric Taylor.

Quiet, capable and infuriatingly self-contained, Eric is helping manage neighbouring Thornmere and has his own reasons for keeping a careful distance. But when a dispute over access roads, a wildlife relocation and a missing staff member begin to expose something far more dangerous beneath the surface, Alexis and Eric are forced into an uneasy alliance.

What begins as friction becomes trust.

What begins as trust becomes something neither of them intended.

And as questions surrounding illegal wildlife trafficking begin to reach closer to home, Alexis is forced to confront the possibility that her aunt knew far more than anyone realised.

Set among private reserves, conservation teams and working safari lodges, The Boundary Between Usis a story about love, loyalty, wildlife and the choices people make when protecting what matters comes at a cost.

For readers who enjoy

Romance with mature adult characters, African wildlife and safari settings, conservation themes, slow-burn attraction, capable heroines, emotionally grounded relationships, suspense and adventure.

Meet Alexis Morgan

Alexis is a wildlife photographer who has spent years building a life that allowed her to keep moving. Returning to Kestrel Ridge was supposed to be temporary.

Instead, she inherits a reserve, a collection of unanswered questions and a responsibility she never asked for.

Direct, independent and not particularly good at being managed, Alexis is far more comfortable behind a camera than dealing with lodge politics, neighbouring landowners or the increasingly complicated man across the boundary.

Meet Eric Taylor

Eric is former military, a devoted father and a man who rarely says more than necessary.

Competent in the bush and deeply connected to the people and wildlife around him, he is used to solving problems without making a performance of it.

Alexis disrupts that system almost immediately.

Their relationship does not begin neatly, and neither of them is looking for rescue. What develops between them is built through shared danger, reluctant trust and the slow recognition that independence and partnership do not have to be opposites.

Africa is not just the backdrop

The world of The Boundary Between Usis shaped by real conservation pressures: wildlife trafficking, land management, reserve politics, relocation decisions and the complicated relationship between tourism and protecting wild spaces.

The novel is fiction, but the conservation world surrounding Alexis and Eric is grounded in the realities of working and travelling across Africa.

There are no tame lions, staged encounters or romanticised versions of conservation here.

The bush is beautiful, but it is also demanding, political and occasionally brutal.

The Kestrel Ridge Series

The Boundary Between Us is the first novel in the Kestrel Ridge series.

The story continues in No Fixed Horizon, where Alexis and Eric face a very different challenge: expanding Kestrel Ridge, protecting neighbouring land and discovering how difficult it can be to build a future without losing the freedom that brought them together in the first place.
